Are you a professional communicator with a nose for good stories? Are you good at building and maintaining relationships with lots of different stakeholders? If so, read on…

About the role

This is an exciting role in the communities section of Macmillan’s communications and engagement team. No two days will be the same - one day you could be supporting a story about a local Macmillan service and encouraging people to get help and support via impactful print, online and broadcast coverage, and the next you could be speaking to a person who is fundraising for Macmillan by running a marathon every day for a year.

You will work closely with lots of stakeholders and teams across the organisation, with a focus on driving awareness of Macmillan’s work locally. You will identify cross-channel communications opportunities and will also respond to reactive media enquiries, supporting senior members of the organisation to identify, prevent and manage reputation issues for Macmillan.

About you

  • You will have demonstrable experience of devising and delivering creative and impactful communications activity and gaining media coverage.
  • You will have great interpersonal skills, with experience of building positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders and journalists.
  • You’ll also have strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to think creatively and to manage multiple projects to agreed deadlines.

About us
Our values are at the heart of who we are and everything we do, inspiring our thinking and guiding our actions. We strive to build a more diverse organisation, where everyone feels empowered to be their best self to work.

We welcome applications from everyone who meets the criteria and strongly encourage individuals to apply who have a disability, impairment or health condition or individuals who identify as Black, Asian or from another ethnic minority background, as these groups are currently under-represented at Macmillan. Our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, along with our internal employee representation body, ‘Our Voice’ and 8 Employee Network groups help us promote fairness and belonging, becoming an engaged and inclusive organisation for all our people.

So we can support you to be your best during the application or interview process, please contact Macmillan Talent Acquisition Team on TATeam@macmillan.org.uk for advice and recruitment adjustments.

Recruitment Process

The application deadline is Wednesday 7 June, with virtual interviews planned to take place on Monday 12 June.

In order to ensure fairness and consistency to select the best candidate for this role, all of our applications are anonymised up until an interview has been confirmed so that shortlisting is based solely upon the suitability of the candidate’s experience.
