MOLA is a well-established and innovative archaeological organisation and one of the leading voices within the profession. Our expert commercial services support clients in their sustainable development and we conduct highly significant research both as part of the development process and independently within our own framework.

As a charity where education is at our forefront, our aim is to inspire people to be curious about their heritage as we set out to share our knowledge and information with the widest audience possible.

We are looking for people to join us who are passionate about delivering quality heritage services and about using archaeology as a force for good to benefit society.

ABOUT THE ROLE

MOLA is continuing to grow at a fast pace, and we are looking to recruit hard-working and enthusiastic Archaeologists to join our Northampton field team. MOLA has a policy of mentoring and training staff at all levels in order to develop individual capabilities and enhance career prospects, with opportunities for internal advancement and promotion, as well as developing specialist skills.

Recent highlights from our Northampton office include a large Anglo-Saxon settlement and cemetery, Neolithic burials, extensive Iron Age and Roman settlements, and part of a Medieval manorial complex.

We have several exciting projects of all sizes, covering different types of archaeology, ongoing or due to start imminently. Our teams are currently working on infrastructure, residential and commercial developments. Examples of projects include:

  • A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet
  • A project with multi phased archaeology in East Anglia
  • Iron Age settlement sites in Northamptonshire

The role primarily involves excavating and recording archaeology of various periods on a range of site- and project-types, in line with MOLA procedures. Training may be provided to use a GPS to record archaeological features, and there may be opportunities to contribute to post-excavation processes as well.

The role will be contracted to the MOLA Northampton office, with work taking place on projects within Northamptonshire and outside the county. Transport from the Northampton office to sites is provided with the MOLA fleet vehicles, and subsistence and accommodation costs are provided for away work in line with MOLA policy.

We have start dates available throughout June and July offers will be made to suitable candidates before the closing date, so early applications are advised! Contracts are initially for six months with the possibility for extension.

We are looking for people with:

  • Experience of archaeological recording systems and fieldwork, especially on commercial projects and even better if that experience includes rural sites;
  • Good organisational, communication and teamwork skills;
  • A valid CSCS card;
  • A commitment to creating a safe, positive, and inclusive work environment;
  • We are particularly interested in applications from archaeologists who would be willing to drive for MOLA.

If you would like more information regarding the opportunity or an informal discussion about the role, please contact the Northampton Field Team Manager, Gemma Hewitt (ghewitt@mola.org.uk).

HOW TO APPLY

Please apply via our recruitment portal link on the MOLA Website.

The closing date is 23:59 on 30th June 2023.

Please note all applicants must have the right to work in the UK without restrictions. Proof of eligibility will be required prior to commencement.

MOLA is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all sections of the community.
