The post will be based at the Royal Hospital for Children on the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital campus, Glasgow though the successful applicant/s may also be asked to work some sessions from the West Glasgow Ambulatory Care Hospital campus. The successful candidate will work with both outpatients and inpatients and will be a part of a large supportive team structure of around 20 Psychologists with many opportunities for collaborative working and service development. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to support multidisciplinary clinical colleagues through consultation on psychosocial care; contributing to MDT and ward meetings; and teaching and training activities including delivery of the NHS Education for Scotland TIPS-PH (Training in Psychological Skills – Paediatric Healthcare) modules. There will also be opportunities for research and audit. Paediatric Psychology work closely with the other acute mental health/psychology teams within the hospital (Paediatric Liaison Psychiatry; Paediatric Neuropsychology; and Maternity and Neonatal Psychological Interventions).

National Children’s Inpatient Unit

This post represents the opportunity to join Tier 4 Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services working across GGC working within the National Children’s Inpatient Psychiatric Unit based on Royal Hospital for Children’s site. The ward has 6 beds and supports children from across Scotland. You will have training and experience in delivering specific psychological therapies for children with complex psychiatric conditions. You will be expected to take a leadership role and providing supervision for psychological interventions within the ward. This post represents the opportunity to continue to build on the work established in the ward. As part of this role there will be close collaboration, joint working and the provision of advice and consultation to the wider multidisciplinary team, other NHS services and to other statutory and third sector services working with children, young people and their families. Our team, based at Royal Hospital for Children, is a great team to be part of working with a range of people across GGC and nationally.

Both posts form part of a network of over 100 psychologists in Specialist Children’s Services in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and a much larger psychology workforce across the care groups in the health board. The service has strong links with both the Glasgow University Doctoral training in Clinical Psychology and the Edinburgh University MSc course in Applied Psychology for Children and Young People and there will be regular opportunities to supervise both doctoral and MSc trainees. You will have a Doctoral level of qualification in Clinical Psychology and be registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC). You will have completed (or we will support) Supervision training.
