Position Overview & Specifications
We want to hear from experienced Community Mental Health Nurses interested in joining PALMS. This is a specialist mental health & wellbeing service based in Dundee GP practices providing specialist brief assessment for adults experiencing mental health difficulties. Working with colleagues from other mental health and wellbeing services, both statutory and non-statutory, and alongside the growing Primary Care team, PALMS clinicians’ role is to signpost to appropriate self management resources or third sector services, provide direct low intensity brief intervention or liaise with and refer on to statutory mental health services where appropriate. PALMS clinicians also act as mental health specialist and provide consultation and support to GPs and other Primary Care staff.
PALMS is a highly valued service both for patients and Primary Care and GP practice staff helping adults experiencing mental health difficulties to access the right support at the right time. PALMS has recently come to the end of a three year pilot and we are now ready to further develop PALMS, and roll out the service to all practices in Dundee. This is an exciting opportunity for experienced Mental Health Nurses to get involved and join a new service, helping to shape mental health & wellbeing services at community level. There will be opportunities to be involved in all aspects of PALMS delivery including providing low intensity individual and group interventions and delivering training & education to wider primary care staff. Full training, support and supervision will be provided. Full or part time hours will be considered.
PALMS is part of the Dundee Adult Psychological Therapies Service. In joining PALMS you will also be part of the wider Tayside Area Psychological Therapies Service which has a compliment of around 160 clinicians and 18 Trainees. This is a busy department with close links to the Universities of Dundee, Stirling, Edinburgh and South of Scotland. Members of the Department contribute to the teaching, supervision and training of Clinical Psychology Trainees and Trainee Clinical Associates in Applied Psychology as well as staff pursuing a Post Graduate qualification such as the Diploma for CBT for Mental Health Professionals. We are committed to supporting Continued Professional Development and research and encourage an active role in service development and partnership working as we build and deliver modern, effective and innovative services.
