Public Health Intelligence Adviser

About the Organisation:

Public Health Scotland is a new organisation, set up to improve the lives of people in Scotland, to reduce health inequalities that persist in many of our communities. It’s an exciting time to join the organisation, with PHS at the forefront of Scotland’s efforts to tackle Coronavirus and its implications across society.

The Post:

We have a vacancy for 1WTE Public Health Adviser in the Evaluation Team within the Public Health Science workforce. The post is permanent and will work as part of a small team to contribute to our programme of work to monitor and evaluate work to support public mental health. This work will involve leading the development, planning and delivery of monitoring and evaluation plans for public mental health, planning and delivering complex areas of evaluation, building relationships with a range of stakeholders to enable meaningful engagement to ensure the evaluation meets their needs, and developing dissemination strategies that facilitate the embedding of learning. You will also be responsible for reporting to Scottish Government, as funders, on progress, risks and mitigation strategies for the work you are responsible for. The post holder will work with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including experts by experience, statutory and third sector organisations, to achieve the strategic objectives of the evaluation.

The Candidate:

You will have a proven track record in developing monitoring and evaluation plans and experience delivering high quality mixed method evaluation. Experience of interpreting both quantitative and qualitative data in evaluation is essential. Strong partnership and interpersonal skills are essential, as are excellent writing skills. Knowledge of the mental health improvement policy context is desirable but not essential.

Location and Working Pattern:

Gyle Square, Edinburgh or Meridian Court, Glasgow.


Work Pattern – Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week.

During times of public health emergency, or other urgent business need, you may be required on a temporary basis to work your normal contracted working hours over 7 days including weekends, in order to meet the needs of the service.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with PHS.
