Position Overview & Specifications

To provide healthcare support to children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

This is a excellent opportunity to make a difference with children and young people with SEND, attending specialist school provision in Northumberland.

Please be advised this post is term-time hours.

To assist the special school nurses to provide healthcare and nursing support to enable children and young people with SEND to attend school.

To provide health education and health support to children, young people and their families. This is done through 1:1 support, drop in sessions, small group work, whole classroom sessions, parent workshops and at home visits.

To assist with monitoring the health and wellbeing of the children and young people in school; providing assistance in school clinics and to visiting healthcare specialists.

Provide continence advice and support including completing initial toileting assessments and annual re-assessments.

Provide administration support to the special school nurses with the patient electronic system.

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. High quality patient care is at the heart of everything we do and we strive to ensure every single patient and service user has an exceptional experience with us. We have one of the most extensive patient experience programmes of any trust in England.
  • Provide training, education, information and guidance, relating to a wide range of health developmental and safety issues, including health promotion, to individuals and groups of children, colleagues, voluntary and statutory agencies.
  • Under direction implement programmes of care.
  • Participate in professional meetings/take minutes. e.g. care team meetings
  • Under direction organise own workload, including own home visits, school visits and groups.
  • Promote friendly and trust building relationships with children, young people and their families
  • Maintain accurate records according to policies and procedures.
  • Work within Safeguarding policies and procedures.
