Position Overview & Specifications

We are seeking a higly motivated individual to join the Computer Services Department as a Data Voice network Technician within the Network Infrastructure Team.

The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting with the management and support for the Trust’s Wide and Local Area Networks in conjunction with the Infrastructure team Leader. The main purpose of this role is to assist in the development of the network in line with the Trust policies.

As an Acute Hopsital Trust it is essential to ensure high availability, security and usability of the network that is transparent to service users. Therefore maintenance of networked systems and, assistance to other teams in troubleshooting and resolution of any problems with those systems is a major factor of the role.

The post holder will be required to work with the Telecoms manager in managing the Automated Call Distribution systems and switch changes of the telecoms equipment As part of the Trusts strategy to move to a combined data and Voice network infrastructure, knowledge of voice ove r IP networks would be advantageous.

The infrastructure team are responsible for co-ordination and installation of cabling throughout all of the Trust sites using third party cable suppliers and maintaining documentation of the network infrastructure as it is developed and maintained.

The role involves communication with a broad range of service users and providers and therefore effective communication skills are essential.
  • To provide support for the Trust’s Wide and Local Area Networks in conjunction with the Infrastructure team Leader for the provision of data and voice.

  • Provide infrastructure support to ensure high availability, security and usability of the data and voice network that is transparent to users.
  • To assist in the development of the data and voice network in line with the Trust policies.
  • Maintenance of networked systems and, where appropriate, resolve or assist in troubleshooting any problems with those systems.
  • To assist with the installation of cabling throughout all of the Trust sites.
  • To document data and voice network infrastructure as it is developed and maintained.
  • To provide support to assist in the resolution of service desk incidents to agreed service levels.
