Band: Career graded 4 – 8 £23,100 - £34,833 (Increasing to £23,289 – £35,124 from September 2023 following a transitional pay award period)


Location - agile between home and Forth Banks Police Station in Newcastle

The Role:

The Procurement function at Northumbria Police is growing and is being transformed. Our aim is to be best in class, delivering the best possible service to our colleagues within the Force and ensuring Northumbria Police obtain best possible value in every transaction we manage.

We are seeking enthusiastic and proactive individuals to join our team and to really help drive the function forward. We are looking for candidates that will be the right fit for this team. Procurement experience is desirable but not essential.

This opportunity will suit those currently in a Procurement role, who are looking to progress or merely seeking a new challenge. It will also suit those who are just starting out on their Procurement career and are looking for an organisation who will help them develop into high performing, Procurement professionals.

There is an opportunity to come into this role and begin at various levels. The grade (and salary) that you enter at will depend upon experience and CIPS qualifications. Once in the role, there will be opportunity (and you will be encouraged) to progress through the grades.

What will I be doing?

Reporting to the Procurement Business Partner you will be responsible for activities in relation to the procurement and management of contracts. This will include maintaining positive customer and supplier relations, the arranging and negotiation of contracts in accordance with UK Procurement Legislation and ongoing contract management, including the identification and delivery of cost reductions.

Responsibilities include:
  • Leading on projects and contributing to the development and maintenance of contracting arrangements.
  • Maintaining and maximising optimum value for money to deliver a flexible and high-quality service which supports the Force and OPCC (Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner) strategic objectives.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with suppliers and internal customers to ensure Procurement processes and existing contracts are managed well and continue to deliver value for money.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for Procurement queries from internal and external stakeholders, to deliver value for money solutions.
  • Supporting the Senior Procurement Officer on key projects.
  • Maintaining accurate records.
  • Data Analysis.
  • Carrying out market research.
