The post

NTU Psychology is seeking a lecturer in Social and/or Affective Neuroscience and Mental Health to further strengthen our research profile and support our teaching. You will be joining the Affect, Personality and Embodied Brain Research Group (APE) which is linked to the Centre for Public and Psychosocial Health (CPPH). Research in the APE group considers psychological and physical wellbeing as intimately linked and impacted by biological predisposition and lifestyle factors of risk and resilience.

Its members seek to discover, develop and evaluate ways to optimise living throughout the lifespan and seek to understand the mechanisms underpinning interpersonal behaviour with specific regard to emotion, from personality, neurocognitive (e.g., neuropsychological assessment, electroencephalography, functional imaging) and/or molecular psychology (e.g., role of immune system in health) frameworks. Translating this fundamental research to applied outputs in mental health and wellbeing is a particular focus, for example through understanding aetiology and intervention for major psychological conditions (e.g., autism, personality disorders, psychopathy, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, dementia).

If you are in the early stages of an academic career and are considering joining NTU, then our Early Career Academic Development Programme could be just right for you

If you are considering joining NTU as a Senior Lecturer you will benefit from our Senior Lecturer Career Framework, which recognises and rewards you based on your performance, contribution and achievement, and offers the opportunity of faster salary progression compared to the industry average.

You should be an enthusiastic lecturer with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to supporting students' development at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Mentoring and support for development in both teaching and research will be provided to appointees appropriate to their level of experience.

NTU Psychology is committed to diversity and welcomes applications from individuals who can contribute to a wider departmental focus on cultural psychology. You will have a strong research profile and evidence of world leading potential in psychology (outputs and research impact 3*/4* rated in the UK’s Research Excellence Framework), including collaborative projects and successful funding bids. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with commitment to open research practices and expertise in advanced research methods. To develop your work further, you will have access to an excellent research environment and equipment (e.g., EEG, MRI, TMS, fNIRS, DECS, wetlabs, virtual reality labs) in Psychology and across NTU. APE also lead and collaborate on projects in molecular psychology (e.g., lipids).

The department has an outstanding reputation for research-led teaching and APE members contribute to a number of popular specialist modules (e.g., Psychopathology, Clinical Neuropsychology; Advanced Biological Psychology, Biological Perspectives in Mental Health and Wellbeing, Individual Differences) and attract excellent doctoral students via external and internal funding.
