Salary: Part-time tutor rates of pay – these are under review

£20.54 - £26.69 per hour - Non-vocational Courses

£24.06 - £30.04 per hour - Vocational Courses

Hours: To be confirmed

Based: Various Lifelong Learning centres

We are seeking to appoint tutors with a level 4/5 subject specialism and experience of teaching Functional Skills and / or GCSE English.


We offer a range of courses at various levels from entry level 1 to level 2 and GCSE in venues across the borough.


Experience of engaging and working with adults who are from disadvantaged areas and who are seeking employment would be an advantage.


Experience of working with communities to deliver outreach and responsive provision would also be an advantage.

Role Overview:

To deliver high quality teaching learning and assessment that complies with the quality standards of the service. Course delivery will include a range of courses at various levels from entry level 1 to level 2 and GCSE accredited and pre-entry to level 2 non-accredited English courses.


Key Responsibilities:

  • To prepare schemes of work, lesson plans and relevant resources for accredited and non-accredited course/s.
  • To complete all appropriate administrative tasks, including completion of registers, learner agreement forms, risk assessments and records for the teaching and learning file in line with Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement (RARPA).
  • To assess and mark learners’ work as appropriate to the standards of the qualification.
  • Provide individual / group ongoing assessment to support learning in order to ensure achievement and progression.
  • To ensure that individual learner needs are met and progress is monitored and recorded and is reflected in lesson planning.

Key Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you will need as a minimum:

  • Relevant subject qualification at level 3 or equivalent
  • Relevant teaching qualification or willingness to achieve minimum qualification within 12 months
  • Excellent organisational skills to deliver teaching and learning online and face to face within the Post 19 sector; with practitioner experience in the curriculum area relevant to the post.
