Full Time, Fixed Term - Researcher


The Oxford School of Nursing and Midwifery is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified individual as a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant to work with a project team at Oxford Brookes University and De Montfort University, Leicester on a Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation funded research project aimed at improving access and recruitment to clinical trials for lung cancer patients.
With the team you will help to conduct and deliver this mixed methods, multi-site study which includes of a systematic review, focus groups and interviews with lung cancer patients, carers, and members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team. You will be involved in the development of a research recruitment tool for lung cancer nurses to facilitate the recruitment of lung cancer patients into clinical trials and the conduct of a pilot study to test the effectiveness and acceptability of the research recruitment tool across four NHS trusts in the UK.
This post is full time (37 hours per week) for a period of twenty-four months (July 2023-June 2025) and paid at Grade 7 (£28,762-£31,411).
Applications are invited from individuals who have experience of mixed methods health or social care research, excellent communication and time-management skills and must have completed, or be close to completing, their PhD.
You will be contributing to the implementation and day-to-day running of a multi-site research project. You will be working alongside another part time Post-Doctoral Research Assistant, as well as the other members of the project team and project collaborators. The project is supported by national partner organisations including Lung Cancer Nursing UK, Mesothelioma UK, the British Thoracic Oncology Group, the National Cancer Research Institute, and the Scottish Lung Cancer Nursing Forum. You will have organisational responsibility for the project, but no direct line management responsibilities.
The ability to manage your own workload and to work as part of a team are essential.
The ideal applicant would have:
  • A good degree and either close to completing or completed a PhD
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Previous experience of working within a health or social care research setting
