Position Overview & Specifications

Social Worker Assistant Role Profile

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Children’s Social Work service as a Social Worker Assistant. This is a newly developed role, to provide practice based support to qualified Social Workers.

In this role you will be expected to carry out the following tasks:
Supporting social care governance standards on appropriate casework management, progress and resourcing. Applying appropriate policies and procedures to resolve complex enquiries within agreed practice. To undertake direct interaction with children, young people and families to achieve the best possible outcomes for children and young people.

We are looking for the following essential qualifications and knowledge:
  • GCSE Maths and English A-C/ 9-4 or equivalent
  • NVQ Level 3 in relevant discipline or equivalent, or higher qualification.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Information Technology systems in
  • Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and general Case Management systems (or a demonstrable ability to apply transferable skills to these systems and become proficient in them quickly).
  • Understanding of empathic approaches to working with children and families - whose lives may have been impacted by trauma and challenging events
  • Understanding of work based health and safety requirements

You will also have the following essential skills:
  • Ability to engage in empathic and restorative ways with children, young people and families who may be experiencing trauma or personal stress, remaining professional and resilient.
  • Ability to engage constructively in supervision, team meetings and wider engagement with others, helping to promote positive working relationships.
  • This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken and written aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
  • Efficient and accurate word processing
  • Demonstrable accuracy and skills in Information Technology systems Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and general Case Management systems (or a demonstrable ability to apply transferable skills to these systems).
  • Ability to prioritise and be flexible to manage peaks in demand
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and personal information
  • relating to children, young people and their families.

This role is not suitable for flexible working due to the needs of the service.
