Position Overview & Specifications

Pulse is now seeking to recruit a Band 8a Clinical Psychologist to join our client, NHS Trust, based in London. This is a part-time locum position. The post holder will be a vital member of the multidisciplinary Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Team that deals with trauma. They will help formulate and deliver responsive, specialist psychological assessment and treatment at individual, family, and systemic levels. The psychologist will work part-time, 15 hours per week.

The post holder will need to provide a qualified specialist psychological therapy service to service users under the care of the Perinatal Trauma and Loss Team (former Maternal Mental Health Service), providing specialist psychological assessment and therapy to service users with significant mental health needs arising in the context of traumatic experiences (including loss) during their maternity journey. The successful psychologist will help support and enhance the work of the multi-disciplinary team (including maternity) by providing advice, consultation, training and supervision on service users' psychological care to members of the broader system.

Duties will include:

  • To be responsible for systematically providing Specialist Clinical Psychological Services to mothers with acute perinatal mental health difficulties referred to the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Team and those admitted to the mother and baby unit (MBU).
  • To undertake high-quality direct (assessment and therapeutic) and indirect (consultative, advisory, and evaluative) specialist psychology interventions within Specialist Perinatal Community Mental Health Service, taking substantial professional responsibility and exercising autonomous judgement in their professional practice.
  • To regularly provide training placements for trainee clinical psychologists in this specialism.
  • To provide clinical/professional supervision to the Band 7 Clinical Psychologists working within the community mother and infant mental health service

Skills and experience needed:

  • Good honours degree in Psychology
  • Post-graduate doctorate in clinical psychology (or its equivalent) as
    accredited by the BPS/ HCPC
  • Relevant specialist training in the skills required for the speciality area.
  • Clinical supervision training for supervision of Doctoral trainees on
    placement
  • Breakaway training or equivalent
  • Experience of working as a qualified specialist clinical psychologist for a
    minimum of two years in Adult Mental Health
  • Experience of minimum 50 hours specialist clinical supervision in Adult
    Mental Health
  • Experience of supervision psychological work
