Position Overview & Specifications
Small, fast growing construction company looking for a finance assistant/bookkeeper to manage a range of day-to-day duties including bookkeeping, credit control and payroll, together with involvement in the broader financial aspects of the business. This is an excellent opportunity for someone wanting to take ownership of the role and use their experience to make an impact on the wider business. The successful applicant will have a thorough knowledge of Xero accounting software and Microsoft Office programmes, be proactive and able to manage multiple processes. Experience within the construction industry and working with SMEs will be beneficial.
Duties to include:
- Responsibility for day-to-day bookkeeping, sales invoicing, maintaining the Fixed Asset Register, preparation and filing of vat returns and bank reconciliations on Xero software.
- Processing online bank transactions for supplier payments and wages.
- Liaising with senior management and project managers to ensure sales invoices are sent in line with agreed timescales, together with subsequent credit control.
- Responsibility for the company’s payroll function including maintaining staff records, processing the payroll and staff expenses, management of PAYE, NIC and pension contributions.
- End of month reconciliations and journals.
- Assisting external accountants with end of year accounts.
Essential Requirements:
- Thorough knowledge of Xero software and Microsoft Office programmes
- Experience in bookkeeping and payroll within a small company.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritise work.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Working hours: 40 hours/week, Mon-Fri, half day Fridays. Although limited home working may be available, this is primarily an office-based position.
Salary: £30,000 - £34,000 subject to experience and review.
