There will be a staff-focused orientation and induction program with clinical support from an experienced team of practice educators, Opportunity to attend fully funded training programs to enhance skills in suturing, hypnobirthing, and biomechanics of birth, Numerous opportunities to progress from Band 6 to Band 7 following our recently launched Band 6 -7 development program.
At the Royal Berkshire Maternity Unit we are consistently doing great things:
Our homebirth team deliveries a staggering 5% of all our deliveries on average each month
We have successfully launched Continuity of Carer Teams which have been supporting our most vulnerable families.

As a midwife working within our service you are able to:
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised women care through appropriate frameworks, including safe effective arrangements for discharge, underpinned by Trust values.
- Assist members of the team in the co-ordination and delegation of the clinical activities of the ward/department
- Use clinical standards to participate in the process of monitoring the quality of care delivered. Act to ensure that midwifery practice is of the highest standard, in line with Trust and CQC and NMC Code Using a problem solving approach to demonstrate an ability to assess, plan and implement and evaluate the needs of the women/families and carers
- Display good analytical ability and sound decision making in changing clinical situations and to develop an insight into evidence which underpins the care being provided
- Provide guidance to other support staff and students that will deliver high standards of effective, women centred care
- Assist with the evaluation of care and initiate any action required, for example liaising with the multidisciplinary team of doctors as appropriate
- Supply and/or administer medication safely in line with Trust medicines policy
- Maintain a professional behaviour at all times and promote a positive image of Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust at all times, in line with Trust values
- Contribute to a high quality safe working environment in which women and their families receive a high standard of care

- Educated to a minimum of 1st degree level/able to demonstrate evidence that is working at degree level/commenced degree pathway
