Position Overview & Specifications

The successful candidate will be part of the ENT team who provide a comprehensive out-patient, elective surgery and emergency service in this large busy District General Hospital. The Department of ENT Surgery treats all aspects of patients within this specialty and this post is an integral part of this. The department provides 24 hour emergency cover from the main hospital base of Royal Cornwall Hospital, with additional outpatient clinics at many local community hospital sites. There is a dedicated ENT outpatient department co-located with Audiology at Royal Cornwall Hospital. All emergency and elective surgery is performed at Royal Cornwall Hospital. There is an adult ENT ward (shared with vascular surgery) and an ENT theatre (shared with Maxillo-facial surgery) with second stage facilities for same day discharge. Children’s surgery takes place in Tower theatres adjacent to the Paediatric ward base.
  • Have some responsibility for ENT inpatients, ward round participation and supervision of other Doctors (F2, Core Surgical trainees and ST GP trainees).
  • Have responsibility for Emergency Treatment Clinic care for acute referrals.
  • Have the opportunity for training in outpatients.
  • Have the opportunity for assisting and training in theatre.
  • Contribute to the teaching and training of junior staff and medical students.
  • Have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education.
  • Actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
  • Attend meetings as appropriate.
  • Fulfil duties of weekly timetable.
  • 1 in 6 on call plus weekend working and on call
