ROLE DESCRIPTION

Durham Wildlife Trust Conservation Assistant

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Geographic Information Systems and data management – reserve and project mapping, data and science collation
    • With support and tuition, produce high quality maps and populate work programmes to pre-agreed templates for all Durham Wildlife Trust nature reserves to be included in management plan system
    • Assist with the migration of spatial data between systems (QGIS to ArcGIS)
    • Using business development tools, develop desktop and mobile apps to cover data recording requirements across Conservation, projects, and supporter development
  • Document digitisation - Lease, deed and legal documentation organisation – transferal from paper to digital.
  • Data management development – aid in the development and digitisation of public, staff and group species records and monitoring onto Nature Counts.
  • Developing materials - Wildlife enquiries and advice – developing materials and information on the website/ training staff on enquiry handling.
  • Creative content development – produce copy for social media/ blogs/ articles, interpretation and signage
  • Customer Service – call handling for general enquiries and third-party relationship management with contractors and suppliers.

And for personal development -

    • Purchasing and Third-Party management support – supplies and inventory management, researching costs, obtaining quotes, producing tender packs, preparing and issuing contracts and raising Purchase Orders
    • Management meeting minutes and management information pack preparation
    • Health & Safety record keeping – collating field records for machinery vehicles
    • Occasionally participate in practical conservation, support the Education team with delivering environmental education sessions and holiday clubs, working in Visitor Centre shops and administration support DWT’s office where required.

The above is not exhaustive and the post holder will be expected to undertake any duties which may reasonably fall within the level of responsibility and the competence of the post as directed by the Conservation Manager.
