Assistant Service Manager - Phlebotomy

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and enthusiastic experienced phlebotomist with experience in providing and supporting staff to delivery phlebotomy services in a variety of setting serving our total population looking to develop their career.

Working as an Assistant Phlebotomy Service Manager you will have the opportunity to support our Service manager to develop our staff by providing venepuncture training to deliver

You will be responsible for providing venepuncture for babies, infants and children within designated consultant Paediatrician clinics and the Phlebotomy department.

To manage the Phlebotomy Services in the absence of the Phlebotomy Service Manager Support the Phlebotomy Services Manager in the delivery and maintenance of an effective & safe Phlebotomy service for adult and Paediatric patients
Support the Phlebotomy Manager & participate in the delivery and maintenance of training program.

Liaise with Senior Laboratory staff on issues relating to work flow and service provision

Perform venepuncture, on patients (children, and adults) as requested by medical staff. Recognise contraindications and complications arising from the procedure, and refer to the appropriate professional if necessary. Carry out a number of non-routine tests which may involve accurately dosing patients with substances that could directly affect/ alter the diagnosis, prognosis, treatment of the patient, e.g. Glucose Tolerance Test
Prepare & monitor duty rotas so as to ensure optimal deployment of available staff in meeting the demands made on the service immediately informing the Phlebotomy Service Manager when staffing levels are inadequate to cover the service.
Independently manage own workload and that of staff under your charge balancing patient-related and professional demands.
To be responsible for the direct supervision, teaching and assessment of other phlebotomists in line with best practice, local and national guidelines and the provision of service
Monitoring the performance of the phlebotomists and identify training or other needs
