We are looking for a experienced Estate Gardener to join the SCHLOSS Roxburghe team!
This is a full-time position based on an average 40 hours a week, 5 days over 7. Salary is £10.90 per hour with additional benefits including amazing discounts, free meals, free golf membership and a full Employee Assistance Program. Availability to work morning, evenings and weekends is essential.
In this role of Estate Gardener you will support the Head Gardener with the overall presentation, maintenance and repair of all outdoor areas throughout the estate. The ideal candidate will enjoy working on their own as much as part of a team and ensure a warm, friendly, and professional interaction when engaging with guests.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- You will be responsible for the day-to-day presentation and maintenance of all outdoor areas throughout the estate; including the lawns, gardens, greenhouses, and public areas including the car park, woodland, walks and paths, trout fishery and river side
- Main daily duties include weeding, pruning, maintenance throughout the gardens to tree shrubs, herbaceous borders, hedges, lawns and fruit and vegetables and general garden duties as directed by the head gardener
- You will support the Head Gardener with the maintenance and renovation of existing plantings and borders, final preparation and planting up of new projects
- You will undertake the proper care for a wide range of plants including, planting, division, cultivation, propagation, weeding and mulching, feeding, watering, pruning, tying-in, staking and dead heading
- You will be responsible for the care and maintenance of the tools and materials used in a daily basis, reporting any faults or issues to the Head Gardener
- You will contribute ideas and practical initiatives to improve the overall quality and presentation of the estate grounds
- You will engage with our guests, visitors and golf members in a professional, helpful and friendly manner, doing everything to ensure an exceptional customer experience
- Support the rest of the Greenkeeping and Estates team to ensure all outdoor areas of the resort are maintained to highest standards at all times
- To adhere to all Health & Safety regulations and policies
- Flexibility to work early mornings and weekends
Your Knowledge & Capabilities:
- You are passionate about the outdoors and the horticultural world
- You have a fantastic attention to detail and take pride in your work
- You are enthusiastic with a capacity for hard work
- You can organise your own time, multi-task and thrive working in a busy environment
- You will have good knowledge of plants and vegetables with the ability to undertake all aspects of gardening, grounds maintenance and horticulture
- You enjoy working in the great outdoors, come rain or shine
- You are creative and can contribute to planning for future jobs and projects
- You have a flexible approach to working days, evenings and weekends
Proven Experience/Qualifications:
- Previous gardening experience of a minimum of 2 years
- Excellent horticultural and plant knowledge
- Good experience of using garden tools and basic light machinery
