Description and requirements

Our Cementation Operating Unit based in Doncaster, who provide a huge range of manufacturing, engineering and maintenance services by using specialist equipment and precision tooling are looking for an Electrical Technician Apprentice to join the team. The facility provides the main hub for internal piling and foundation equipment.


As an Electrical Technician Apprentice, you will be supporting the Workshop Supervisor by carrying out testing, inspections, service, and repairs in a timely manner both in our Plant Preparation Workshop Facility and on our construction sites.


What will you be learning to do?

  • Carry out Services to piling rigs and equipment.
  • Carry out Inspections to piling rigs and equipment.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance to piling rigs and equipment.
  • Carry out repairs to piling rigs and equipment.
  • Install modifications on site and within the Plant Preparation Workshop.
  • Liaise with site teams regarding modifications, inspections, and servicing of plant and equipment.
  • Support site breakdown both remotely and physically on site.
  • Complete rig defect reports.
  • Order spare parts.
  • Liaise with the team regarding current and new plant and equipment innovations.
  • Complete any relevant training.
  • Design, install and test electrical installations on construction sites across the UK.


Where will you be working?

You will be based either in Skanska's facilities at Bentley Works, Doncaster and UK Wide travel is to be expected. You will be on your feet most of the day. Your weekly hours will accumulate to 37 hours with a structure of Monday to Thursday 8:00am - 4:00pm with 30 minutes unpaid lunch break, on Friday hours will be 8:00am - 3:30pm with 30 minutes unpaid lunch break.


What qualification will you be studying towards?

Through day release to Doncaster College, Skanska will provide support and funding to help you achieve a formal Level 3 Electrician/Maintenance Apprenticeship Standard qualification.

What will we need from you?

  • You will be required to hold GCSEs in Maths and English at grade 9 to 4 or equivalent or level 2 functional skills in Maths and English.
  • Passion for electrical maintenance and engineering.
  • You should enjoy working with people and as a team.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Keen to learn and pro-active approach to work.
