Position Overview & Specifications

  • Job Reference: CI01-1817
  • Salary: £31,099 to £35,411 per annum fully inclusive (pro rata)
  • A Local Weighting Allowance of £1002 is also payable

  • Hours of work: Full time 37 hours per week
  • Location: Hybrid (incl. at least 2 days per week at Observatory House, 25 Windsor Road, Slough, Berkshire, SL1 2EL)

Main accountabilities of the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Network Officer to join the IT team within Slough Borough Council. We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic individual who can support our business strategy and provide continued development of the IT support function. This role will assist with the design of new services and new network and communications solutions to support the future direction of the council. You will need to:

  • work on the maintenance and support of components within the network and communication infrastructure. Ensuring that all documentation of all network technology in use including all configuration items and their interrelationships is up to date and relevant
  • support all governance and IT service management processes linked to the work being undertaken, especially change control, capacity and availability management, incident, and problem management
  • work with the Networks Engineer and the Networks Lead to ensure the balance between managing the existing technical estate and the allocation of resources to projects and programmes of work, is aligned to the needs of the Council and its risk appetite Whilst we mentor you in this role to ensure you progress to a Networks Engineer or Networks Lead so you won’t stagnate.

What you will need to have

  • Degree / NVQ Level 6 Education (or equivalent).
  • Experience of managing, supporting, and implementing technology devices.
  • Excellent IT analytical skills, able to analyse complex technical issues and propose solutions to improve the situation and recover services quickly.
  • Strong technical skills and ability to advise and guide other technical staff across various teams.
  • Experience of working across diverse organisational functions, suppliers, and technology teams.
