What we are looking for:

Southfields Academy is looking to appoint a Second Line IT Technician to assist the Network Manager in ensuring the smooth running and development of the Academy's ICT systems.

The successful candidate will have prior experience in a help desk role, ideally within an education environment. They will also have knowledge of and experience working with a number of different systems, including Windows 10 and Microsoft Office. Hands on experience working with internal PC components is also essential.

JOB DESCRIPTION: SECOND LINE IT TECHNICIAN

RESPONSIBLE TO: IT Network Manager

CONTRACT: Permanent

WORKING PATTERN: 8:00am – 4:00pm (35 hours per week, All-Year Round)

ACTUAL SALARY: £25,316.00 - £27,557.00 per annum (Scale 4, SCP 18 – Scale 4, SCP 21)

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:  To assist the IT Network Manager in ensuring the smooth running and development of the Academy’s ICT systems.

DUTIES:  To install, configure and upgrade operating systems and software, including settings required for different users.  To install, assemble and configure computers, network infrastructure hardware, and other peripherals.  To troubleshoot problems with computer systems, including troubleshooting hardware and software, e-mail, network and peripheral equipment problems, making repairs and corrections where required.  To assist with the planning, design, research and acquisition of new or upgraded hardware and software systems, maintaining current knowledge of hardware, software and network technology and recommending modifications as necessary.  To liaise with and monitor external suppliers of goods and services for the supply of maintenance and installation services, hardware and software.  To contribute to the development of ICT strategy for the Academy, ensuring that this takes account of the needs of all parts of the Academy and recommending actions.  To ensure that appropriate measures are taken to ensure the security of data and equipment.  To provide appropriate support for other team members and to give advice and hands-on training where appropriate.  To provide appropriate support for teaching staff using ICT in the classroom and to give advice and training where appropriate for all users of ICT in the Academy.  To provide support to teaching staff and students to access our cloud platform including Google and Microsoft administration.  To provide support for our integration services including school MIS and other synchronization services.  To co-ordinate installation services between onsite staff and 3rd party companies.

GENERAL:  To be fully aware of and understand the duties and responsibilities arising from the Children’s Act 2004 and Working Together in relation to child protection and safeguarding children and young people as this applies to the postholder’s role within the organisation.  To also be fully aware of the principles of safeguarding as they apply to children and young adults in relation to the postholder’s role.  To ensure that the postholder’s line manager is made aware and kept fully informed of any concerns which the postholder may have in relation to safeguarding and/or child protection. 

Successful candidates may occasionally need to support at Linden Lodge School as part of the Multi-Academy Trust. This list of duties is not exhaustive and you may be required to carry out other reasonable tasks commensurate to your grade as directed by your line manager.
