Position Overview & Specifications

Job Introduction

The starting salary for this role is £19,304 per annum based on a 21.60 hour working week, pro rata to £32,173.

We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic Assistant Curriculum Manager to join our Surrey Adult Learning Arts & Crafts Team and contribute to the continued successful development of our part-time programme. This is a great opportunity to be involved in creating learning opportunities that widen participation and promote community engagement, wellbeing and skills for adults. The service is delivered face to face in the daytime and evening, as well as Saturdays at our seven Centres, which have highly specialist facilities.

This position will be based at one of our seven Adult Learning centres, which can be discussed further at interview. Travel within Surrey to our other centres and venues will be a necessity, so we do need you to have a full driving licence and use of a vehicle. We are also open to remote working, meaning you aren't required in the office every day. We'd welcome a conversation with the successful candidate on what remote working may look like for you.

Reporting into the Curriculum Manager, you will be joining two other Assistant Curriculum Managers to lead our team of part time tutors, and be responsible for our Arts & Crafts offer and delivery at specific centres. Your role will be to ensure that the quality of teaching and learning continually improves against standards set by Ofsted and embodied in the Service’s Quality Framework.

Working in line with local and national agendas, you’ll make sure that our targeted course offer is inclusive and designed to raise aspirations and provide support to those in need. As a service, we’re focussed on widening participation, so experience of being involved in community-based Arts and Crafts projects and working with partners would enable you to make a great contribution!

Part of this will involve managing the selection, appointment, performance and support of our tutors; devising and implementing a training programme to address tutor development needs.

This is a great opportunity to:

  • Support the Curriculum Manager with organising and further developing a broad course offer guided by the curriculum intent, to develop the Arts & Crafts offer across Surrey
  • Lead and develop a team of tutors to delivery of outstanding learning experiences
  • Support the Curriculum Manager with the ongoing programme planning process by growing and managing a face-to-face delivery programme
  • Build relationships with community partners and create opportunities for a wider group of learners to benefit from Arts & Crafts learning
  • Work with tutors and centres to develop the specialist facilities

What we’re looking for!

We need someone with initiative who is able to generate high expectations, enthusiasm and commitment from all!

Here are the qualities, skills & experiences we are looking for in our Assistant Curriculum Manager:

  • A teaching qualification (such as: PGCE/CertEd/Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training)
  • Relevant experience of teaching Arts & Crafts to adults and of a formal observation process aligned to an Ofsted inspection framework
  • Experience of managing team performance and prioritising workloads to meet deadlines
  • Experience of successfully working within an Ofsted inspection framework to ensure a high standard of provision and care for learners
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and IT skills

At Surrey, our values and behaviours are just as important as our skills and abilities. They shape who we are as an organisation. Find out more about the values we follow.
