The salary range for this role is £24,504 - £40,840 per annum for working between 21 and 35 hours per week, term time only (693 to 1155 hours per year). Please be aware that though the advertised working hours are correct at present, these are subject to change each term.

Are you passionate about introducing whole classes of children to learning music through playing a musical instrument or singing? Would you enjoy being part of an organisation with like-minded musicians and teachers who put students and inclusive practice first?

Surrey Arts is the lead youth music organisation in Surrey, and we provide music lessons, instrument hire, out of school music centres, activities, and ensembles for young people.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for whole class music teachers to join our talented team of experienced and committed teaching staff. Across the academic year, you will deliver high quality and innovative music education to whole classes of primary children in various schools around the county.

We offer whole class teaching on a variety of instruments, and we would hope that the successful candidate could teach whole class beginners for up to a year on at least two of the following: violin; woodwind (clarinet, toots and doods, smaller plastic flutes and clarinets); brass (trumpet, cornet, mixed brass both brass and p version); guitar; ukulele; djembe; voice; recorder; keyboard.

This role would be ideal for:

  • Primary / SEND music teachers or classroom teachers with musical expertise.
  • Secondary trained music teachers looking to take their skills into KS2.
  • Instrumental teachers looking to widen their skills and work with whole classes.

We are looking for enthusiastic and committed teachers, and this post could be combined with one of our instrumental teaching vacancies if a larger teaching timetable is desired.

In this role, you will be supported by a team of Administrators and an Area Manager to organise your schedule. You will be provided with annual paid CPD and training opportunities and will receive an hourly pay for whole class instrumental lessons of £35.36 per hour.

You will join a team dedicated to "changing lives through world class arts". Surrey Arts is an ambitious and forward-thinking organisation that places young people at the centre of our work. We are committed to developing Surrey Arts as a genuinely inclusive organisation, and one that meets the needs of the whole diverse community of Surrey.

About you

To be considered for interview, your personal statement will clearly evidence:

  • The instruments you would be happy to offer to a whole class of beginners for up to a year’s programme,
  • Specialist music knowledge and whole class teaching experience in the UK related to your instrument(s) or area of speciality,
  • How you would ensure all children you teach are able to access high quality musical learning experiences in your lessons,
  • Experience of building strong relationships with students, schools, and colleagues
  • Strong IT and administration skills,
  • Ability and willingness to travel.

At Surrey, our values and behaviours are just as important as our skills and abilities. They shape who we are as an organisation. Find out more about the values we follow.
