The Role

We’re pleased to announce an exciting opening for a Health and Safety Manager to join our team in Shap. You will ensure that occupational, process and safety activities are undertaken to high standards across site.

Some of your key tasks as Health and Safety Manager will include:

• Monitoring and managing all aspects of Shapfell permit to work activities to ensure compliance
• Leading site in confined space control and entry, including gas testing and BA equipment
• Ensuring that risk assessments are in place and are regularly updated
• Reporting on all Health and Safety KPI’s
• Monitoring and managing near miss and hazard activities in SALUS
• Carrying out and managing Health and Safety training for site compliance

The Health and Safety Manager You will be a key member of the management team of the strategically important island site of Tata Steel Shapfell. The Works supplies 95% + of Tata UK’s lime requirements, used in both iron and steelmaking. The burnt lime product value is up to £45 Million.

The Candidate

Whilst training will be given, it is envisaged that the Health and Safety Manager will be educated to at least “A” level standard, and have several years of industry experience. You will have knowledge of Health and Safety management and hold a NEBOSH qualification for safety. The Health and Safety Manager must be a good team player, have a high level of understanding using programs such as Microsoft Word, Databases and Excel, and be passionate about making the site and it’s staff safer.

A higher qualification in Safety management (eg NEBOSH diploma) is desirable, although support to achieve this may be available for the right candidate.
