Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated fluent Japanese Freelance Linguist to join our team. As a Freelance Linguist, you will play a crucial role in analysing, translating, and interpreting language-related content. You will collaborate with our clients to deliver accurate and culturally appropriate linguistic solutions across a variety of industries and projects. This role offers the flexibility of remote work and the opportunity to contribute your linguistic expertise on a freelance basis.

You will be required to work for 15-20 hours per week. You will be a given a deadline so the hours of work are flexible to your schedule.

You will need your own device to work on with a strong internet connection.

Responsibilities:

  • Language Analysis: Analyse linguistic data, including written texts, speech, and other language-related materials, to provide accurate and insightful linguistic assessments.
  • Translation and Localization: Translate written documents, audio recordings, and multimedia content from one language to another, ensuring high-quality and culturally appropriate translations. Localise content to suit specific regional and cultural preferences.
  • Interpreting: Provide interpretation services in real-time, both in person and remotely, to facilitate effective communication between individuals or groups speaking different languages.
  • Proofreading and Editing: Review and revise translated materials for accuracy, coherence, and clarity, ensuring adherence to industry-specific terminology and client requirements.
  • Terminology Management: Develop and maintain terminology databases or glossaries to ensure consistency and accuracy in translations.
  • Cultural Understanding: Conduct cultural research and analysis to ensure translations and interpretations are culturally sensitive, appropriate, and accurately convey the intended message.
  • Quality Assurance: Perform quality checks on translated content, verifying accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project guidelines and client specifications.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with clients, project managers, and other team members to understand project requirements, address linguistic challenges, and deliver high-quality linguistic solutions within specified timelines.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated on language trends, linguistic research, and advancements in translation and interpretation technologies to enhance professional skills and improve service offerings.
  • Sensitive content: Be comfortable reviewing highly sensitive and potentially offensive sexual and abusive content occasionally. To aid with this we have a Wellness program in place and also we provide you with training to help you understand and contextualise the information you review.
  • Content creation: You may be asked to identify gaps in areas and come up with ideas to fill this gap that are specific to your market and cultural region.

Requirements:

  • Proven Expertise: Strong fluent proficiency in Japanese with a good understanding of English. Formal education or certification in linguistics, translation, interpretation, or a related field is preferred.
  • Linguistic Skills: Exceptional knowledge of grammar, syntax, and vocabulary in multiple languages, with a deep understanding of cultural nuances and idiomatic expressions of your language.
  • Translation and Interpretation Experience: Demonstrated experience in professional translation, localization, and/or interpretation, with a track record of delivering accurate and high-quality linguistic solutions is preferred.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accurate translations, consistent terminology usage, and adherence to project specifications.
  • Time Management: Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey ideas, provide feedback, and collaborate with clients and team members.
  • Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with Microsoft Office and a good understanding of Excel and other relevant linguistic technologies.
  • Cultural Awareness: Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and awareness, with the ability to adapt translations and interpretations to suit diverse audiences and contexts.
  • Flexibility and Independence: Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision, while being open to feedback and adaptable to changing project requirements.
