Job Purpose

To ensure that Thames Water are prepared for known and highlighted risks. To ensure there are plans in place to mitigate the risks and ensure the business can continue. This will include developing new plans for newly identified risks and maintaining plans after an incident has occurred with learning.

What you will be doing

  • Primary part of the role is to support the business in writing and understanding the business continuity/resilience plans required
  • Understand and ensure plans are aligned with requirements of the Security & Emergency Measures Direction, the Civil Contingencies Act and other legislation relating to business resilience
  • Ensure adherence and ongoing updates are made to internal business resilience plans in line with regulatory requirements, and internal strategy and standards.
  • Be able to understand the data provided by the business in their business continuity plans and challenge the areas to ensure the plans work and provide continuity.
  • Develop and maintain all internal documentation relating to business continuity and resilience plans and risk assessments/logs in line with the Incident Management and Business Resilience guidelines.
  • Represent Thames Water at National forums established to ensure collaborative multi-agency response and resilience – ensuring nationally raised risks, and regulatory policy changes are reflected into the business.
  • Work effectively as part of the Business Resilience team, to ensure that all resilience activity is planned, maintained in accordance with regulation, and embedded/delivered in the business in an effective and timely manner in-keeping with risk assessments and business guidelines.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to the wider incident management team, as well as across the business, regarding risk management, mitigation planning and overall business resilience – actively working with internal stakeholders to ensure resilience building against known and potential risks to our organization.
  • Act as an SME for business projects where resilience may be at risk, or where continuous improvement of resilience could support the wider business.

What should you bring to the role?

  • Have an in-depth knowledge of the water/waste business
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong analytical skills and understanding of business continuity
  • Computer literate: with ability to use new systems with training
  • Ability to communicate complex legislation and language into user-friendly guidance and updates for stakeholders and colleagues
  • Excellent relationship management skills
  • Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills
