Position Overview & Specifications
Conservation Trust (BCT) is proud to be the leading non-governmental organisation devoted
solely to the conservation of bats and their habitats. Our mission is to secure the future of
bats in a changing world. BCT works on a number of levels to create a better world for bats and
runs a range of different projects and initiatives.
All British bat species are impacted either directly or indirectly be agricultural practices.
Therefore the actions of farmers and land managers can have a huge impact on the populations of
bats in the UK. BCT recognises the importance of the agricultural landscape to bat conservation
and the challenges and opportunities that exist.
The Agriculture Officer will be required to work across the sector to promote and improve
processes and understanding of farmland management for bats across the UK and to seek positive,
strategic, collaborative outcomes that benefit bat conservation. This will be by direct advice
to on-the-ground projects, developing new opportunities and building relationships with
landowners, working with farming collaborative groups and leading for BCT on agricultural
policy areas such as the development of agri-environment schemes in England, Scotland and Wales
in relation to delivery for bats.
This post is for 2 days a week but if an applicant has the right breadth of experience,
consideration would be given to the role being increased to 3 days a week. If you feel you are
suited to this role we would encourage you to apply even if the immediate number of days on
offer are not ideal as we can explore this further.
May be undertaken wholly remotely, split between remote and BCT’s main office in Battersea, South London, or be entirely office-based.
We are seeking someone with a good understanding of agricultural practices; experience of
working with farmers; knowledge of bat conservation and ecology and understanding of key policy
areas relating to agriculture and agri-environment schemes.
If you have the passion and experience to join our team and help us secure a future for bats
and the habitats that support them and wider biodiversity, please view the job description and
person specification via the link below.
