Position Overview & Specifications
The Belay Foundation finds trauma-responsive workers for families whose children have previously been in local authority care.
A fantastic opportunity is available to offer trauma-responsive babysitting to 2 brothers for one evening a fortnight. Additional hours may be available on a weekend or during the school holidays.
John** is 13 and has a great sense of humour. Paul** is 11 and also great company. Both boys are sporty, John on his bike and Paul playing football, and they both enjoy ice hockey. Like most children they also enjoy computer games at home. The boys have a rabbit in the garden and love animals. John and Paul were adopted from care and find some aspects of life difficult due to their earliest experiences. John has ASD and Paul has ADHD. Both boys also have sensory processing difficulties. John and Paul’s parents would like someone to build a relationship with the boys to offer them a regular fortnightly night out. There may also be some additional hours available on the weekend or during the school holidays.
You’ll have some experience of working with children with additional needs and be ready to learn about the impacts of early trauma. Mature and grounded, you’ll be able to fit in with the family and use the routines and strategies that work for the boys. You don’t need your own transport as the family’s home is easily accessible by public transport.
