Staff Role - Natural Capital GIS & Data administrator

Application Closes: 04-June-2023

We are looking for an enthusiastic, early career data and GIS administrator to join our team. The successful candidate will have a key role working within our operations team to tackle the climate emergency and biodiversity crisis. The role will manage spatial and operational data, with a particular focus on carbon from forestry, biodiversity, peatland restoration and estate management projects within the FFC portfolio.

About FFC:

We exist to remove CO2 from the atmosphere, restore biodiversity and fight climate change. Our mission is to remove 1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by 2030. We do this by creating and restoring carbon rich habitats, planting native broadleaf forests, restoring peatland and developing biodiversity projects. We are an impact for profit organisation, helping businesses achieve their sustainability goals: whether that’s by working together on one of our biodiversity projects, supporting our UK reforestation projects or purchasing high-integrity carbon credits generated on our sites. Our partners can visit us on-site and experience the positive impact of our business first hand.

Working hours:

  • Full time
  • Staff position
  • Remote working home-based role, Central Scotland strongly preferred.
  • Flexible working

About the role:

Reporting to the Senior Forestry Manager, the role is pivotal in developing our carbon inventory through registering our projects be them Woodland Carbon Code or the Peatland Code. This position involves coordinating the collation and input of all the data and maps required on the various carbon schemes, and under the supervision of the Snr Forestry Mng building relationships with the carbon framework(s) key stakeholders. Secondly, data management of key departmental documentation and datasets.

The role will grant access to a number of rural sites across Scotland, and site visits are actively encouraged. There will be a significant opportunity to observe and learn from the experienced members of the team when assisting with fieldwork. Liaison with the commercial team and fielding questions from the sales team will become second nature to the individual in the role.

Role requirements:We are looking for someone who is mission driven and can show a true passion for what we do. You’ll have a keen interest in green carbon and land conservation, strong IT skills, particularly MS Excel and functional GIS knowledge. Everyone in the FFC team is given a high degree of autonomy, and common sense with a grounded proactive approach and sense of humour is essential. No specific forestry or ecology qualifications are required, but would be viewed favourably as would Carbon Code(s) exposure.

What we are looking for:

  • Strong IT skills, particularly MS Excel and GIS
  • Data management experience of potentially very large datasets, including spatial data
  • Shows initiative and takes ownership
  • Comfortable working remotely and independently

Benefits:

  • £24,000 - £27,000 pro rata (dependant on experience)

Team:

We’re a small but experienced, values-driven, cross-functional remote team composed of ecologists, forestry, estates management, marketing, finance and customer support. Candidates who are thoughtful, self-motivated, happy to ask for help, challenge assumptions, are comfortable giving and receiving constructive feedback, and are open to learning will enjoy our team dynamic.

We value:

  • A big interest in the mission of the business
  • Honest, thoughtful and open communication
  • Positive entrepreneurial approach: ambitious, tenacious, and pragmatic
  • Thoughtful and thorough delivery of exceptionally high-quality work

Culture & work/life:

We’re a fully remote team on flexible hours (but generally available between 10am-4pm GMT) to accommodate busy family lives. Attendance at face-to-face strategy and All Hands and social days in Scotland will be required periodically.

We are an equal opportunity employer. We are looking for the best candidate based on the values they can add. Our culture is hugely important to us and we welcome applicants of all race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran or disability status. We encourage all candidates who believe they have the required skills and experience for any of our roles to apply.
