We are a growing team and have an exciting opportunity for a UK based Development Coordinator.


The Institute for War & Peace Reporting (IWPR) works with media and civil society to promote democratic values, peacebuilding, and good governance in conflict-affected and fragile states.


Founded in 1991, IWPR is a non-profit human rights organization that works with independent media and civil society to promote positive change in conflict zones. From Ukraine to the Philippines – via the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Central Asia – we have trained tens of thousands of journalists and civil society activists (including a young girl in Pakistan called Malala!) and built many lasting organisations that remain independent to this day in Afghanistan, the Balkans, Africa and Asia.


Overall job purpose:


To support the Development team in pursuing programme and unrestricted income from US and European government donors as well as individuals, trusts and foundations.


Specific responsibilities:


  • To work with Development and Programme teams to submit timely proposals in response to funding calls including submission to the relevant donor portals;
  • To contribute to the overall development of the team including the communications and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) functions;
  • Produce supporting materials for funding proposals. Where required, develops and/or edits proposal content, including corporate capability statements and past performance references;
  • Maintains updated information on electronic databases and supports the Global Director of Development on private donor lists;
  • Identifies and tracks New Business offerings that are consistent with IWPR’s core competencies and strategic priorities. Gathers and synthesizes analysis of information about donors, partners and competitors;
  • Maintains fundraising databases, ensuring they are up to date as information is collected by the development team;
  • Plan and assist in the delivery of donor events;
  • Assists the MEL function with impact and results reporting as needed by the Development team.

Other responsibilities:


  • Contribute to the processes, planning and systems to enable Development to be most effective including proposal planning;
  • Build excellent working relationships across the organisation, in particular with programme teams and finance;
  • Operate within Charity Law and Data Protection legislation and adhere to the Institute of Fundraising Codes of Practice;
  • Represent IWPR to external audiences;
  • Undertake any other appropriate responsibilities that may arise.

PERSON SPECIFICATION


Education and/or experience:


  • Minimum of two years of related experience in an NGO or comparative setting;
  • Track record of securing income from trusts, statutory and private funders;
  • Working knowledge of US, UK and/or EU donor agencies and their requirements in the proposal setting;
  • Working with senior programmes and finance staff in developing engaging funding proposals;
  • Experience of working with databases for input and reports;
  • IT literate.
