Position Overview & Specifications

This role offers an opportunity to be part of the dynamic radiotherapy team at UCLH. The post holder will undertake rotations between the photon and proton departments and will work across a wide range of areas; pre-treatment, treatment-prep, the treatment units and brachytherapy.
UCLH is seeking a committed individual with the energy and focus to continue building on the existing service of excellence.
Radiotherapy services at UCLH are delivered across two departments. The photon department is equipped with Varian TrueBeam systems with advanced imaging packages and 6DoF couches. The department has a comprehensive brachytherapy suite and a Gulmay skin unit. UCLH is one of only two NHS sites delivering proton beam therapy across the NHS. The proton beam therapy (PBT) department is equipped with Varian ProBeam gantries with advanced imaging packages and robotic couches. Both departments have a dedicated CT scanner and the PBT department also has a dedicated MRI scanner.
The department delivers radiotherapy services for a broad spectrum of cancers comprising of common cancers as well as specialist treatments including brachytherapy, molecular radiotherapy and total body irradiation. The PBT department focus’s predominantly on head and neck, brain and sarcoma treatment sites. Paediatrics and TYAs make up approximately one third of the patient cohort.

To contribute to the delivery of radiotherapy services for the common cancers and a wide range of specialist treatments including paediatric and adolescent workload, a broad range of brachytherapy and isotope work, total body irradiation, and IMRT treatments.

The post holder will deliver radiotherapy treatments within both the photon and proton services on complex and state of the art equipment along with colleagues and members of the multi-disciplinary team. This will occur under supervision of senior staff, to ensure accurate treatment for a range of procedures. To participate in all aspects of treatment, planning and patient care on the treatment units and the pre-treatment suite within the department on a rotational basis.

The post holder will be required to liaise with patients receiving care in the radiotherapy department and their relatives and carers as necessary. Also all grades of radiotherapy radiographers, radiotherapy A&C staff, students, trainee assistant practitioners, multidisciplinary members of the radiotherapy and oncology department. Physics department and engineer team, all clinical oncology medical staff, lecturers from City University and other higher education institutions, other healthcare professionals from the Trust and from outside the Trust. Specialist healthcare professionals e.g. bone marrow transplant co-ordinators, designated representative from manufacturers of equipment, staff from facilities department.

Key Results Areas

Main Duties and Responsibilities
