About us

The Sarah Parker Remond Centre is multidisciplinary and international in outlook, providing a focal point for scholarship and public engagement activities that address racial inequality. It was established at UCL in 2019 in response to student-led demands for the transformation of the curriculum and a reparative reckoning with the powerful, but often unacknowledged, colonial and imperial histories of our university, our city and our nation.

The Centre’s work encompasses the cultures, literatures, histories and social relations of the Black Atlantic, Europe, Africa and the Americas but is not confined to those regions.

A multidisciplinary taught MA programme has been developed and the Centre also hosts a variety of public events, seminars and a podcast.

About the role

The Administrator of the Sarah Parker Remond Centre will provide professional support for the Centre and its academic staff and be part of the staff team in the IAS.

They will be responsible for leading in the planning and development of the administrative aspects of the Centre, providing an efficient and effective service, as well as providing a public face by aiding and running internal and external events.

They will work closely with both the IAS team for research and event-related activities, and the SELCS team for teaching administration-related activities.

About you

Candidates will be educated to A level standard, or equivalent qualifications or substantial relevant experience. They will have experience of working in a higher education institution and of managing budgets and events.

They will have excellent IT and communication skills. They should be empathetic and knowledgeable about the areas covered in the Centre’s work. They should have a positive, self-motivated and flexible approach to their work, including supporting evening events.
