About UCL IRDR The UCL Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction (IRDR) inspires innovation and evidence-based practice focused on improving disaster risk reduction (DRR) through our research, education, and partnerships. This creates a better life for many people by reducing the negative impacts of disasters. The IRDR is an exciting cross-UCL department, which leads research, knowledge exchange and teaching in the fields of risk and disaster reduction and humanitarian action. It produces world-leading research in disaster risk reduction through a multidisciplinary perspective for the long-term benefit of humanity. The IRDR provides a focus for UCL’s disaster risk reduction activities through its promotion of novel multidisciplinary research and translation into practice, and aims to assume a role of leadership both in the UK and internationally. The IRDR is an academic department in the Faculty of Mathematics and Physical Sciences, but works across all UCL’s faculties, and contributes to UCL’s Grand Challenges. The IRDR runs two taught masters programmes (MSc) in Risk, Disaster and Resilience and Risk and Disaster Science, a master of research (MRes) programme in Disaser Risk Reduction, and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Global Humanitarian Studies. All our programmes are cross-disciplinary with diverse student cohorts from different disciplines, sectors, and parts of the world.

About the role

The main purpose of the role is to work with the IRDR Head of Department to propose, manage and execute the engagement strategy for the IRDR, supporting the MAPS faculty Advancement strategy, working at a high level with external organisations and across UCL to ensure strategic engagement plans are delivered to a high standard and in a sustainable manner in cooperation with relevant stakeholders and partners both inside and outside of UCL. This will include identifying opportunities and creating income through external funding and partnerships including activities such as CPD (continuing professional engagement), consultancy, and philanthropy. The post holder will manage IRDR Events, connecting the event strategy with the overall engagement strategy to optimise efficacy and efficiency of resources. The appointment will be made at grade 8 on a 0.5 FTE permanent basis. The actual salary will between £23,707 to £27,902.50 based on the 18.25 hours. About you

The post holder should have experience of building partnerships across different organisations and working in or with NGOs, private companies, or governments. The post holder should have excellent interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and discretion, excellent organisational skills, and excellent communication skills.
