About us

The post of Research Assistant in Retinal Cell Biology is in the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, ranked the best place in the world to study Ophthalmology (CWUR Rankings by Subject 2017).

This Research Assistant post offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role in research into retinal diseases in a highly successful and dynamic research group.

About the role

Duration: 18th months in the first instance, funded by the Moorfields Eye Charity
Salary: UCL grade 6b (£35,411 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance)

The research assistant will work on the implementation of a novel imaging method, expansion microscopy, to examine the ultrastructure of cilia in stem cell derived models of inherited retinal disease.

The post would suit an ambitious graduate with a background and interest in the mechanisms of neurodegeneration, cilia and retinal cell biology, stem cell disease modelling or therapeutic development. The Research Assistant will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, and with established collaborators, to investigate the molecular mechanisms of cilia in retinal disease by ultrastructure expansion microscopy.

The appointed individual will work closely with Dr Julio Corral-Serrano and join a collaborative team, led by Prof Mike Cheetham.

About you

The successful applicant should have a good BSc or MSc in a relevant subject, and show a strong commitment to high quality research. (S)he will be interested in investigating models of disease using stem cells models. The successful candidate would ideally have experience with stem cell culture and/or microscopy.
