Position Overview & Specifications

Southampton is part in the Targeted Lung Health Check (TLHC) screening programme pilot across England; this programme delivers lung health checks for residents within Southampton and surrounding areas who are most at risk of lung cancer (people aged 55 to 74 who have been smokers). Following a successful trial, our local programme is expanding into two new areas in 2023/24 as part of the work towards a national roll out by 2027.

This role is to continue the effective delivery of the TLHC programme to our local population, leading on the expansion of the service and delivery plan, as guided by the National TLHC protocol.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and adaptable Programme Manager to implement and lead the expansion of the TLHC programme at UHS.

To understand the role in more detail please read the full job description and person specification documents attached.

As one of the largest acute teaching Trust’s in England, we can offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. We believe you deserve the best possible surroundings in which to do your job and we want to support you in doing your job to the best of your ability.

UHS employees are able to access a huge range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata) on appointment, can access on-site nursery facilities (subject to availability), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and only an hour on the train from central London. The New Forest National Park and the beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than those in London, 13 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted and 13 nearby green spaces to enjoy.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
WHAT YOU’LL DO

The successful applicant will be working with the TLHC team at UHS and the Wessex Cancer Alliance to lead the implementation of the expansion phase of the TLHC programme.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a energised individual with experience in leading projects/programmes and seeing them through to implementation and evaluation. As the successful applicant, you will also have skills in bringing stakeholders together in the design and delivery of projects and delivering through others.

Experience in cancer/and or elective care services is desirable, however the ability to learn fast, be resourceful, and adjust in sometimes difficult environments at pace is essential. You will have excellent communication skills with the capability to analyse, review and make sense of highly complex, sensitive or contentious information across a diverse range of subjects relevant to TLHC.

You will need to be able to travel and work autonomously across multiple sites within Southampton, Eastleigh and the New Forest. This role requires the ability to travel to and from hospital sites and other community settings.
