Position Overview & Specifications

Looking to begin a career in nursing that doesn't follow the usual route?

Training to be a Nursing Associate typically involves a 27 month training programme, in which you can earn while you learn, and graduate with a foundation degree.

Nursing Associates are members of our nursing teams who are accountable for their own practice and are regulated by the NMC.

UHB is among the biggest teaching trusts in the country, and is home to one of the largest Trainee Nursing Associate programmes.

We are looking to recruit talented, passionate and committed individuals, who embody our values to join the next cohort of the programme.

The programme provides opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge in clinical practice, whether you have prior experience or not; also specialising in diverse areas of nursing; e.g. paediatrics, gynaecology and more.

The programme is delivered in partnership with 2 local Universities, where you gain your foundation degree.

The Trust has a School of Nursing, Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) and Midwifery, which nurtures and develops of our nursing, AHP and midwifery colleagues from student to substantive roles.

At the end of the programme, Trainee Nursing Associates will be equipped with knowledge, understanding, skills and behaviours relevant to their employment as a Nursing Associate, in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council's Code of Conduct. During their training, TNAs will:

Deliver high quality, compassionate care under the direction of a Registered Nurse (or other registered care professional dependent on setting), with a focus on promoting health and independence

Have proficient attitudes and behaviours compatible with the NHS and Trust values

Apart of a designated clinical and care team, delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the individual

Work in various placement areas across the Trust, as well as partner organisations, to gain experience in other specialities

Carry out specific delegated clinical and care tasks and responsibilities to a high standard and competency, under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse (or other registered care professionals dependent on setting)

Work with a practice supervisor to take responsibility for developing own clinical competence, leadership and reflective practice skills within the workplace

Develop the ability to work without direct supervision by the end of the programme, at times delivering care independently in line with the individual's defined plan of care, within the parameters of practice of the Nursing Associate role, accessing clinical and care advice when needed.
