Position Overview & Specifications

The National School of Healthcare Science’s (NSHSC) Echocardiography Training Programme (ETP), in collaboration with the British Society of Echocardiography (BSE), has been developed to respond rapidly to the urgent workforce needs for Accredited Echocardiographers. This is an 18 month, full-time (37.5 hours per week) integrated training scheme to deliver the academic and work place training leading to both a Post-graduate certificate in Echocardiography and Level 2 BSE Accreditation in adult Transthoracic Echo.

The job holder, funded at A4C Band 6, will be required to complete a variety of competencies and assessments for each module within the workplace, travel to the chosen university (currently Newcastle University) and actively participate in the day to day of a busy echocardiography department.

Educational events such as exam preparation courses may require Saturday working.

A 1st or 2:1 in an undergraduate Cardiac Physiology (PTP) or equivalent Hons degree is an essential requirement.
  • This is a training role, and as such the main responsibility is achieving competency in the area of adult echocardiography by successfully completing the BSE’s and NSHCS’s competency assessments by the end of the 18-month programme.
  • The job holder is expected to maintain the standard mandatory training requirements for the role which will require several journeys to NSHC’s chosen university – currently Newcastle University.
  • The job holder is responsible for reporting directly to both the Echo Lead for the department and the Echo lead for education including to confirm A/L and to request formal study time spent away from the department
  • The job holder has a duty to report any equipment problems to a more senior member of the team.
  • The job holder will participate in the weekend rota as and when required.
