Position Overview & Specifications

We have a vacancy for a Plain X-ray centred Band 5 Radiographer based at the Glenfield Hospital, who shares our vision for high class patient care.

Come and join our forward thinking and extremely friendly team in the University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL), which is one of the largest Hospital Trusts in the country

The Radiology Department is well equipped and the “plain x-ray” aspect comprises of 3 twin plate wireless general DR rooms, 2 single plate wireless DR rooms, 3 fluoroscopy C-arms, 4 DR mobiles, and 2 CR/DR dental x-ray rooms. The workload includes GP access for MSK and cardiorespiratory examinations; a variety of outpatient & inpatient referrals, dental radiography and fluoroscopy.

Some rotation between the plain film and the cross-sectional team has been supported in the past for those who have requested it. Furthermore, the nearby Leicester Royal Infirmary has a busy Emergency Department and following a suitable induction period, there exists a potential opportunity for those who also wish to develop their trauma experience via an additional bank post.

It is essential that you are a good communicator and team player; enthusiastic and driven. This post is suitable for both newly qualified and experienced Radiographers.

UHL spans three hospital sites, employs around 14500 staff and fully embraces role extension.

The Glenfield Hospital is a busy expanding site, currently with 400+ beds, provides a range of services for patients, including nationally recognised medical care for heart disease, lung cancer and breast care. Furthermore, we have recently taken on the additional specialties of Renal and Hepatobiliary care.

Imaging has regularly supported career progression in Radiographic Reporting/Advanced Practice and the other roles such as Hysterosalpinography, Vascular Access and Ultrasonography.

Due to the changeable nature of COVID, interview dates might change at short notice to allow for safe face to face interview.
  • To participate in department shift system and/or out of hours roster
  • To undertake intravenous injections/connections to pump injector in compliance with Imaging & Medical Physics protocol, following training, and if required by the role.
  • To assist Senior staff with the supervision of Assistant Practitioners, RDAs and other non-medical staff/visitors within the clinical areas.
  • To ensure patients are adequately informed, are able to consent to the examination and are also able to ask questions or raise concerns.
  • To assist in monitoring the quality of service to patients and where appropriate participate in the development and implementation of proposals for improving services.
  • Keep up to date with current imaging technical developments, professional and Trust issues.
As a successful applicant, you will be required to participate in the 24/7 out-of-hours roster shifts and will be expected to work across site.
