The Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology is seeking to appoint a full-time Research Assistant to work with the Director and a curatorial collective of four Visiting Fellows towards an exhibition with the working title Indigenous Futures. The exhibition will be an outcome of 'Indigeneities in the twenty-first century' (IndiGen) a European Research Council project led by Professor Philipp Schorch (LMU Munich); the Museum is a project partner and is working towards an exhibition opening in December 2024. This is a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2025.
The Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (MAA) is one of the nine University of Cambridge Museums and Botanic Garden (UCM). It is both a museum open to the general public and a research and teaching facility of the University. The Museum is currently open to the public Tuesdays to Sundays and welcomes approximately 75,000 visitors a year. The Museum's world-class collections attract visiting researchers from all over the world and it maintains an active programme of temporary exhibitions and loans to major exhibitions within the UK and internationally. The role will facilitate and support liaison and exhibition development across the MAA team and Visiting Fellows Leah-Lui Chivizhe, Taloi Havini, Noelle Kahanu and Jordan Wilson, supporting and contributing to collections research and object selection. Experience of working with a museum collection, and world cultures collection is desirable for the role, as is experience of exhibition design and working with community groups.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records) check, a health assessment and a security check.
