Position Overview & Specifications

The Hannon laboratory at the CRUK Cambridge Institute (part of the University of Cambridge) is seeking to hire a bright and dedicated Research Assistant to join a team of scientists studying RNA-mediated chromatin silencing. Our group has a long-standing interest in RNA biology and cancer research, and a history of developing new tools to address cutting-edge questions in these fields.

This role will be part of a team that uses genetics, imaging, molecular biology, biochemistry, high-throughput RNA and chromatin profiling methods as well as computational approaches in various models to understand the dynamics of chromatin organisation at the molecular and mechanistic level. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and competent individual with excellent laboratory skills in molecular biology or biochemistry. A background in chromatin biology/epigenetics or expertise with relevant genomics methods, especially ChIP-seq or CUT&Tag, are desirable. Experience with tissue culture, protein expression and purification, molecular cloning, or bioinformatics would be beneficial but are not required. The successful candidate should show initiative and independent thinking, possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively individually and as part of a diverse team.

Applicants should have a B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (Biology, Biochemistry, Natural Sciences) as well as a reasonable amount of practical research experience.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 30 September 2024 in the first instance.
