Position Overview & Specifications

Grade UE07: £35,333 - £42,155 per annum
CMVM / MGPHS / USHER Institute
Full-time: 35 hours per week

The DataLoch Programme at the Usher Institute within The University of Edinburgh is looking for Data Analysts to support data-driven research and innovation in health care.

The Opportunity:

The DataLoch project – the foundation of the Health & Social Care aspect of the DDI programme – will deliver a data service to support health care innovation and research in the South East Scotland region. DataLoch will enable research into disease mechanisms, treatment pathways, health service delivery and public health amongst others.

DataLoch will create Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) respiratory rich datasets, providing expert support to catalyse their responsible use in health care research and innovation. DataLoch will offer a ‘one-stop’ service for trustworthy, multi-stakeholder utilisation of curated data for public, private and third sector benefit.

The post holder will work closely with the Data Manager to assist with curation and meta-data cataloguing so that datasets are made available securely for research, development and innovation taking place across industry, academia and the NHS.

They will support research projects, including data access applications, liaising with data holders and ensuring governance requirements are met for secure data use.

Your skills and attributes for success:
  • Experience working in data management and large datasets
  • An understanding of the datasets involved to be able to distinguish study needs and experience of managing data quality
  • Experience in writing complex queries to interrogate databases (e.g. Ms SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL and Oracle)
  • The ability to use mainstream data science programming languages (such as Java, Python) for data extraction, transferring and transforming data, and statistical data analysis
  • Experience in using one or more statistical software packages (e.g. SAS, STATA, R or similar)
