Position Overview & Specifications

The University of Greenwich is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Designer to work on designing, making, and prototyping an interdisciplinary co-creation project, entitled “Ethics Board Game”.

Rationale

In the world of business, ethical dilemmas can arise both on an individual and organizational level. While there may not always be a clear "right" way to act, there are three traditional ethical positions that can be helpful in guiding decision-making. The first is a consequence-based approach, which evaluates an action based on the outcomes it produces for all parties involved. An action is considered ethical if it results in the most favourable consequences for everyone affected. The second is a duty-based approach, which holds that certain actions are inherently wrong, regardless of their consequences. These may include acts such as theft, deception, discrimination, and murder, which violate fundamental moral duties or infringe upon individuals' rights. Lastly, ethics can focus on a person's character and motives. An ethical person, for instance, is one who demonstrates traits such as trustworthiness, loyalty, courage, and respect, and whose actions align with these virtues.

This project aims to develop a board game prototype that allows players to explore and apply various ethical positions in practice. The game will serve as a valuable learning resource for undergraduate and graduate students studying Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Business Ethics. Through a fun and engaging experience, the game aims to introduce students from business backgrounds to the complex world of ethical decision-making.

Tasks

  • Co-create the Ethics Board Game in collaboration with the project lead and students from the business school
  • Develop the game mechanics and rules, game pieces, game board, and cards
  • Design the graphics and visual elements of the game, ensuring they are engaging and attractive to the target audience
  • Conduct user testing to refine the game mechanics and design
  • Manage the production of the game, including overseeing the manufacturing process and ensuring the final product meets quality standards
  • Provide administrative support such as scheduling meetings, maintaining project documentation, and liaising with stakeholders.

The candidate should be available to carry out work between 8 May and 30 June 2023 (This position requires a total of 35 hours with the possibility of a job share arrangement – with no more than 20 hours per week).
