Are you passionate about research and wanting to work for a research intensive university?

Do you have an understanding of the research landscape and experience of supporting research delivery across all aspects of the lifecycle?

Following on from our recent success in the Research Excellence Framework, the School of Education has an excellent opportunity for an Operations Manager to build on this and support the achievement of its research strategy.

Under the leadership of the Senior Operations Manager, you will have responsibility for the day-to-day management of the School’s research team working closely with the School’s Director of Research and Knowledge Exchange and other academic colleagues as well as central Professional Services colleagues.

Specifically, you will:

  • Lead, whilst working alongside a team of professional services staff (based in the School) to develop and deliver support for a range of research and knowledge exchange activities, including postgraduate research projects
  • Provide specialist advice and guidance on operational processes and activities
  • Shape and support the development and continuous improvement of research related strategies, budgets and processes
  • Support the collection and preparation of information and documentation for operational management and quality assurance and enhancement purposes
  • Work closely and collaboratively with colleagues in the School, the Faculty of Social Sciences and central Professional Services such as Research and Innovation and Finance
  • Working with Registry and Academic Affairs, ensure the school meets quality assurance standards for PGR programmes
  • Actively contribute to the Faculty’s professional services networks and communities of practice; particularly related to Research activity

You will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills, hands-on experience of developing IT solutions (using for example SharePoint and Power Automate) and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and varied environment. By building relationships and motivating others, you will help drive forward change and deliver service excellence.

Our success is delivered by our people. We believe that a diverse and supportive environment, bringing different perspectives to our work and allowing people to thrive, is the best platform for cutting-edge research and excellent teaching and operational support. We are seeking individuals from the widest possible range of talents and backgrounds, and we will appoint not just based on past achievements, but also on your potential for the future.

This role is available on a permanent basis. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours). Job share arrangements may be considered. Interviews to be held on 8 March 2023.
