Position Overview & Specifications

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Molecular and Cellular Immunology at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) Oxford Institute. The laboratory of Dr Pablo F. Cespedes will develop ex vivo methods to study, among others, how post-translational modifications (PTMs) influence T cell-tumour communication, including the glycodynamics of receptor-ligand interactions unfolding within the tumour microenvironment and model draining lymph nodes.
You will be responsible for developing a thorough knowledge of cell-cell communication and maintain awareness of the latest technological developments in the fields of microscopy, flow cytometry and cellular and molecular immunology. You will plan and conduct cutting-edge research projects in conjunction with the operational lead and other members of the team, generating and keeping a good laboratory environment that supports collaboration, and you will refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) for use of human ex vivo models, including synthetic extracellular vesicles, supported lipid bilayers, synthetic antigen-presenting cells, and 3D organoids. Other duties will include supporting other members of the CAMS Oxford Institute to develop experimental protocols using our ex vivo models, including assisting in development of funding applications relevant to the goals of the lab and the CAMS Oxford Institute.
It is essential that you hold a relevant PhD/DPhil (or near to completion) in T-cell biology, cancer biology, glycobiology, or high-/super-resolution imaging techniques to study cell biology, along with experience in flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, and in at least three of the following molecular techniques: RNA purification, cDNA synthesis, qPCR, bulk RNA sequencing, protein purification, western blotting, immunoprecipitation, or bulk proteomics. You will be able to show evidence of experience in the culture of primary cells or the handling of human tissues, such as blood and biopsies. Excellent communication skills are essential, along with evidence of team working skills, such as collaborations.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. We advise that CVs are no longer than 3 pages and supporting statements no longer than 2 pages. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.
This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 2 years and is funded by CAMS Core Grant.
Only applications received before 12 midday on 22nd June 2023 will be considered. Please quote 165624 on all correspondence.
