Position Overview & Specifications

We are seeking to appoint to the Professorship of Microbiology, based in the Dunn School of Pathology. The Dunn School has an outstanding track record in biomedical research, with a particular focus on the fundamental cell and molecular biology underlying a broad range of disease mechanisms. It provides a stimulating and supportive community environment with access to excellent scientific facilities and support services, both within the department and across the wider Oxford community.
You will be a senior member of the department and will have the opportunity to help shape and develop its historic strengths in microbiology and infectious diseases. Beyond the Dunn School, Oxford has a thriving microbiology community and you would be encouraged to contribute to efforts to integrate these strengths effectively.
You will have established a successful independent track record, and you may already be an international leader, or you will be on that trajectory. You will have shown the capacity to make a leading contribution to the study of any area of microbiology, defined very broadly, although preference will be given to candidates whose research complements existing strengths at the Dunn School. You will have an excellent record of publication and research funding, as well as a commitment to training and capacity building. You will also value collegiality and a supportive and diverse working environment.
The Dunn School can offer substantial high quality laboratory space and funding to cover the post-holder’s salary. It may also be possible to negotiate additional initial support. This post is associated with a Professorial Fellowship at Wadham College.
If you would like to discuss this post, please contact the head of department, Professor Matthew Freeman (matthew.freeman@path.ox.ac.uk). All enquiries will be treated in strict confidence and will not form part of the selection decision.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. To apply for this role and for further details, including the job description and selection criteria, please click on the ‘Apply’ link herein.
The closing dates for applications is 12.00 BST on Monday 12 June 2023.
