Position Overview & Specifications

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join The Oxford School of Global and Area Studies as the Russian and East European Studies (REES) Programme Administrator on a permanent basis.
Since its founding nearly two decades ago, the REES Programme has offered courses for graduates interested in gaining a deeper knowledge and understanding of Russia and East Europe through study across a range of disciplines including history, politics, economics, international relations, society and culture.
The Programme is now seeking a talented, versatile and conscientious part-time administrator to support the day-to-day delivery and administration of the MPhil in Russian and East European Studies, the MSc in Russian and East European Studies, and for supporting the academic activity in REES more broadly.
About the Role:
This is a highly responsible role within the OSGA wider administration team of professional staff reporting to the Head of Administration and Finance, in a vibrant and dynamic University department. The post is offered on a job-sharing basis, working collaboratively with another REES administrator with wide-ranging responsibilities from supporting the Programme Director, the School’s Academic Coordinator and administrative colleagues in Examination Schools, to liaising closely with academic colleagues within the REES Programme and beyond.
The successful candidate will play a key part in developing and supporting the processes around the degree programmes and will be working closely with the academic coordinator to ensure that all sources of course information are made available, as required by the University policies, ensuring a positive student experience. In particular, she/he will manage all enquiries from prospective and on-course students to the MSc in Russian and East European Studies, the MPhil in Russian and East European Studies; service relevant committees, and provide secretarial and other administrative support to the programme.
Liaising effectively with colleagues from across and beyond the collegiate University you will take shared responsibility for coordinating the REES events, facilitating the organisation of any hospitality, accommodation and travel arrangements, as required, including monitoring the budget allocated for each event. The successful candidate will also help maintain the Programme’s social media presence, marketing and communications activities.
About You:
The post is very varied and stimulating, hence it will suit an individual who enjoys being part of a busy office in an environment of competing priorities. Applications are welcome from candidates with previous experience in academic and/or events administration, who are able to demonstrate a sufficient level of computer literacy, good communication skills and an ability to produce high-quality, accurate, independent work with little supervision. Experience of working with social media is desirable.
Application process:
When applying to this position, you will be required to upload a CV and a supporting statement addressing how you meet each of the selection criteria, as listed in the job description. Further details regarding the selection criteria and details on how to apply can be found in the document attached.
Informal enquiries are welcome: please email hr-dministrator@area.ox.ac.uk. Any queries or matters that are not referred to in the job description/further particulars will be passed to the Programme Director, Dr Nicolette Makowicky. Please quote the vacancy reference 163071 in all your correspondence.
The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Wednesday 22nd February 2023. Applications received after the closing date cannot be considered.
