Position Overview & Specifications

We are looking for an ambitious, collegiate and motivated Research Assistant to work on an ESRC funded project to adapt and evaluate a parent-delivered early language intervention (Parents and Children Together; PACT https://sites.manchester.ac.uk/pct/) for young children with Down syndrome. The School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences at the University of Reading offers a thriving research environment and is committed to fundamental, applied and clinical research which changes lives across the world (https://www.reading.ac.uk/pcls/research)

This project offers an exciting opportunity for the post holder to develop their research skills and contribute to early language intervention research and practice. Under the guidance of the Principle Investigator, Dr Kelly Burgoyne (University of Manchester), and the Co-Investigators Professor Vesna Stojanovik and Dr Emma Pagnamenta (University of Reading) the post holder will work on key aspects of the project including participant recruitment; day to day contact with families taking part in the project; conducting home visits with families; data collection (including administering language assessments with young children, and conducting focus groups and interviews with parents), data coding and data entry; supervision of casual research assistants; data analysis and reporting; and dissemination and writing activities.

You will have:

  • A BSc in Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Education or a related discipline (minimum 2:1)
  • Knowledge of language development in children
  • Experience of collecting data from children and families
  • Knowledge and experience of qualitative and quantitative data analyses
  • A driving licence (would be desirable) and be willing to travel within England for data collection
  • Excellent communication and organisation skills, and the ability to work collaboratively and to tight deadlines
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
