Position Overview & Specifications

2 x Permanent positions, 1.0 FTE.

Warwick Medical School has an excellent reputation for delivery of high-quality education programmes and world leading research. We are seeking to recruit two Assistant Professors (Teaching focused) on indefinite contracts to join the Division of Biomedical Sciences (BMS). The post holders are expected to take a leading role in the development of our new portfolio of postgraduate modules and programmes, including reproductive medicine, biomedical diagnostics and translational research. The role will also involve making contributions to the delivery of our existing undergraduate and postgraduate courses: MSci Integrated Natural Science, BSc Health and Medical Sciences, and MSc Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research. The post holders will have the opportunity to act as student project supervisor and personal tutor while there is also the potential to pursue independent or collaborative research projects.

Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

Lead the development of new education programmes to enable growth in strategic areas for the department. Design and deliver research-informed teaching across our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, managing all aspects of curriculum delivery and the associated student experience.



DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching and Learning Support

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of new education programmes in the broad area of biomedicine.

  • Have academic ownership for modules or themes (e.g., assessments, study abroad coordinator, subject-expert) across programmes.

  • Identify areas where current provision needs revision or improvement and contribute to the enhancement of our education portfolio.

  • Design teaching material and deliver either across a range of modules or within a subject area.

  • Contribute to the enhancement and delivery of the assessment strategy of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

  • Contribute to writing exam papers, marking and providing timely feedback to the students.

  • Act as personal tutor and supervisor for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

  • Attend any relevant meetings as required i.e. Examination Board, Course Progress Group

  • Take part in recruitment activities (Open days, Offer holder days).



Research and Scholarship


  • Engage in subject, professional, pedagogic or practitioner research and other scholarly activities.

  • May conduct individual or collaborative scholarly projects.

  • Extend, transform and apply knowledge acquired from scholarship to teaching and appropriate external activities.

  • Develop and produce learning materials and disseminate the results of scholarly activity.



Administration and Other Activities

  • Participate in and develop internal and external networks, for example may contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, or build relationships for future activities.

  • Undertake specific departmental roles as and when required.

  • May be expected to attend departmental meetings and to participate (where necessary) in other committees and working groups within the department, the faculty and the University.

  • Participate in relevant professional activities.

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety in all aspects of work and, where appropriate, undertake risk assessments.

  • Where required, act as subject leader, usually to a limited degree for example where there is a small subject team or where the role is more administrative than academic.
