Chester is a well-known historical city in the Northwest of England, renowned for its Roman city walls, 2-tier shopping streets and the racecourse, which is the oldest horse racecourse in Britain. It is less than an hour from both Liverpool and Manchester and being just off the Wales/England border, the beautiful beaches of North Wales are just a short drive away. The practice itself is located on the outskirts of the city centre to the north and is easily accessible via local transport routes.

The team is currently made up of 7 vets (4.5 FTE), 4 RVN’s, 2 final year SVN’s, 2 first year SVN and 3 receptionists who are led by our practice manager. Within the clinical team we have a variety of different interests, with 1 exotics certificate holder, 1 medicine certificate holder and 1 with a keen interest in dentistry. Our caseload is varied with a high proportion of insured pets and proactive clients.

We are looking for a veterinary surgeon to join on a full or part-time basis and we are truly flexible with the rotas; all of our colleagues have individual rotas to suit their lifestyle and outside of work commitments. Our weekday opening hours are 8.30am to 6.00pm (last appointment at 5.40pm). In terms of weekends, we are only open on Saturdays 9.00am-12.00pm and these are worked on a rota with the other vets, working 2 in 5. Our out-of-hours cover is provided by a local referral hospital.

On a day-to-day basis we have a tightly structured diary to ensure that all our colleagues finish on time, which includes dedicated phone call and paperwork time and fully blocked out lunch breaks. We run 20-minute sick pet consults and we have nurses on hand all day to assist in consults as needed, whilst also having sufficient nursing cover to provide full nurse consults for pets and owners throughout the day.

Ideally you will have some experience working as a vet in practice and can bring different ideas to the team. We can accommodate a consulting-only position if this is something that interests you. Likewise, there is also the option to take the standard mix of consulting and surgery.
